The BCWF’s Fish Habitat Restoration and Education Program invites you to join the 2022 Langley Fish Habitat Stewardship Workshop, hosted in partnership with the Nicomekl Enhancement Society. During this free 2-day workshop, participants will hear from guest speakers about the traditional use of the area, impacts from agriculture and development, and different tools available to become a community stream steward. Participants will gain hands-on experience in areas such as riparian and stream health assessments, vegetation biodiversity surveys, and water quality monitoring.

This workshop will feature a mix of demonstrations and talks from knowledgeable presenters including;

  • The Langley Environmental Partners Society (LEPS) will present on common native and invasive plants in the area, including safe management practices for these species. LEPS will also be conducting a BioBlitz and showing participants ways you can get involved in your community.
  • Josh Baker, Environmental Chemist,  will discuss the impact of farming and other anthropogenic effects on water chemistry related to fish.
  • Tyler Thibault, Community Advisory with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans - South Fraser Region, will be discussing some of the impactful work the Nicomekl Enhancement Society and other hatcheries are carrying out, and will touch on climate change and other current impacts to fish and aquatic species.
